Two dimensional stratospheric aerosol distributions during EASOE

The authors present stratospheric aerosol measurements made throughout the polar vortex from an aircraft based lidar during EASOE. These measurements show that the interior of the polar vortex was free of aerosols above PT values of 485 K throughout most of the winter. However, below PT values of 420 K the aerosol distributions are basically uniform in a latitudinal sense, showing no distinct features at the vortex boundaries.
