The optimum S/sub 0/-wave scattering lengths a/sup 0//sub 0/ are determined from the experimental S- and P-wave phase shifts from threshold to 1050 MeV and from Roy's equations, and found to be in the range (0.22--0.27) m/sup -1//sub ..pi../. Also calculated are the S- and P-wave amplitudes that satisfy the unitarity, analyticity, and crossing-symmetry requirements and agree with the experimental data. The behavior of the partial waves in the unphysical region -4< or =s< or =4 is obtained. The positions of the S-wave subthreshold zeros are found to be s/sub 0/ = -0.2 and s/sub 2/ = 2.5 for the S/sub 0/ and S/sub 2/ waves, respectively. An attempt is made to resolve the ''up-down'' ambiguity, and the ''down'' solution is found to be preferable.
