This paper describes a method of restoring the activity of a hydrocarbon cracking catalyst in which the cracking activity of the cracking catalyst is at least partially decreased by contaminating metals deposited thereon, the improvement comprising contacting the cracking catalyst with a metals passivating agent. It comprises: water; antimony; and a vinyl copolymer, wherein the vinyl copolymer is the ammonium salt of hydrolyzed copolymers of methylvinyl either and maleic anhydride.
