Implementing computerized maintenance
Performance of the maintenance process involves seven separate but interactive functions. Maintenance information--Data and information pertinent to the equipment, the site and the facilities must be stored, maintained and retrieved. Job accomplishment--Tasks are assigned, the work is planned and scheduled, assignments are made to work crews, the work is performed, and the actual work performed is described and reported. Labor management--The capabilities of the craftsmen and supervisors are developed and utilized in job assignments. Materials management--Replacement parts and consumable materials must be provided. Technical services--Sophisticated, highly technical machinery requires the application of technical knowledge to assist the maintenance process. Cost accounting--The financial aspects must be recorded and reported. System support and control--All these functions must be interactive and supportive and their efficiency and effectiveness must be monitored.
