Exploration seismology. Volume 2

Book ·
OSTI ID:6571109
This volume deals mainly with seismic data-processing and interpretation, the two areas in which the most startling advances in applied seismology have been made in recent years. The authors attempt to give a systematic approach, being consistent with the conventions established in volume 1. Much of the tremendous improvement in seismic data quality today results from processing. Information theory has been used to extract geologically significant information buried in noise. The digital computer has become an essential tool in our analysis. Chapter 8 discusses data-enhancement procedures and how data-processing is carried out while chapter 10 gives the mathematical background more completely. In general chapter 8 deals with digitized data whereas chapter 10 deals with both digital and continuous functions.
