A study was carried out by Mathematical Sciences Northwest, Inc. (MSNW) to define research and development of technologies that will enhance the use of natural gas by Pacific Northwest industries. Both technological and economic/institutional factors were considered. The industries included food products; lumber and wood products; paper and allied products; chemicals and allied products; stone, glass and clay products; and primary metals. A variety of technologies were identified which showed promise either of increasing the efficiency of gas use or of adding new industrial uses for natural gas in the Pacific Northwest.
