Fracturing formations in wells

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6569551
A fracturing technique prevents the backflow of fracture propping materials into the well bore. The fracturing fluid with its propping material is followed into the well bore by a mixture of a carried liquid and a particulate material, preferably an alkaline earth carbonate, having particle size between 4 and 40 mesh. The quantity of particulate material is the carrier fluid when settled should be sufficient to fill the well bore to above the level of the fracture. The carrier-fluid, particulate-material mixture is forced into the well bore until the fracturing fluid and proppant are completely displaced into the fracture. The particulate material settles in the well bore and prevents flowback of the propping agent.
