Two-cycle internal combustion engine including means for varying cylinder port timing

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6564483

A two-cycle internal combustion engine is described comprising an engine block including a cylindrical wall defining a cylinder having a head end. A crankcase extends from the cylinder from the end remote from the cylinder head end. A piston has a lower edge and is mounted for reciprocative movement in the cylinder relative to the cylinder and to the crankcase so as to cyclically produce in the crankcase a low pressure condition as the piston approaches top dead center and a high pressure condition as the piston approaches bottom dead center. A passage in the engine block comprises a fuel intake passage through which fuel is introduced into the crankcase and is terminated at the cylindrical wall in a port having upper and lower edges at given distances from the cylinder head end.
