Conference · · Coal Technol. (Houston); (United States)

This paper describes the Simplex coal and biomass gasification process as a versatile refuse-to-energy conversion system which offers an effective and economic solution for the waste disposal problems confronting metropolitan regions. By gasifying the combustible fraction of municipal solid waste mixed with coal in a sturdy briquet form, Simplex can turn the problems which have plagued solid waste gasification processes into technical and economic advantages. Through briquetting, Simplex achieves high gasification rates and complete utilization of the coal. The product of the gasification of Simplex briquets is a clean-burning medium Btu fuel or synthesis gas.
