Abstract Volterra Stieltjes-integral equation

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6561531

The object of this work is to establish local existence of solutions to the abstract Volterra Stieltjes-integral equation u(t) = f(t) + integral/sub 0//sup t/d/sub s/K(t-s)integral/sub 0//sup s/g(s-r,u(r))dr, where K(t), t > 0, is a semigroup of bounded linear operators in a Banach space X and g is, in general, a nonlinear operator from R/sup +/ x X ..-->.. X. Many equations with physical applications can be written in the above form; in particular, this equation is used to establish local existence of solutions to a class of partial differential equations arising in the theory of heat flow in materials with memory.
