Turbine side plate assembly

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6561057
A pair of axially spaced turbine rotors is described for a gas turbine power plant, each of the turbine rotors comprising a disk of turbine blades circumferentially supported in recesses formed on the outer diameter of the disk. The recesses have side edges, each of the turbine rotors having a front face and a rear face, circumferentially spaced side plates mounted on the rear face of one of the turbine rotors contiguous with the disk. And each of the blades at the side edge of the recesses form an axial seal at the junction where the blades are attached to the disk. Sealing means include a rigid annular support member extending between the rear face of one of the pair of turbine rotors and a front face of the other of the pair of turbine rotors and the annular support member bearing against the front surface of each of the side plates for axially supporting each of the side plates, the rigid annular support member being the sole means for securing the side plates in position.
