Effect of gaseous phase on the behavior of boron carbide during the heating process

This paper uses x-ray diffraction and phase analysis to study the effects of temperature and various atmospheres comprised of oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide on boron carbide and its sinterability in the presence of graphite. The addition of free boron was found to facilitate the formation of a binder and enhance the sinterability of the carbide.
