Simulation model for boom town housing. [Use of BOOM1 and BOOMH]
This report provides the technical documentation for a computer-simulation model that can be used to test the effectiveness of various boom town housing proposals. The housing model builds upon an earlier boom town simulation model developed at the Los Alamos Scientific Lab. in the summer of 1976. The housing model uses systems dynamics, conventions, and techniques to represent the interplay between the supply and demand for boom town housing. This report is written in a technical style designed to provide analysts with a full knowledge of the structure, parameter values, and behavioral tendencies of the housing-simulation model. It concludes with a series of policy tests that show the effectiveness of six different housing proposals in reducing the severity of the boom town housing problem. These tests show that the only effective way to eliminate the housing problem under adverse boom town conditions may be direct intervention in the housing market by the energy company or by the state or Federal governments.
