Heber binary-cycle geothermal power project
This paper provides an overview of the 70 MWe Heber Binary Geothermal Demonstration Power Plant. Details of the power conversion cycle, the plant design criteria, mechanical and heat exchange equipment and materials of construction are presented. A review of the construction and start-up milestones and an update of relevant experience gained during the early operation phase of the project is provided. The Heber Binary Project is the first commercial scale binary cycle geothermal power plant commissioned in the United States. San Diego Gas and Electric Company provided overall project management for the project with additional sponsorship support from the Department of Energy, Electric Power Research Institute, four California utilities and two private sector firms.
