Purge valve for on board fuel vapor recovery systems
This patent describes a purge valve for controlling the flow of vapor from a vapor source to a vacuum source. The valve comprising an elongate generally tubular main housing having a first chamber opening at one axial end of the housing and a second chamber opening at the opposite axial end of the housing, means defining an inlet passage adapted to be connected to a vapor source extending into the housing and an outlet passage adapted to be connected to a vacuum source extending into the housing, means defining a first axial passage extending from the inlet passage to an opening at the inner end of the first chamber, means defining a second axial passage extending from an outlet opening in the second chamber to the outlet passage, means defining a third passage placing the first and second chambers in constant communication with each other, first and second end cap means sealing mounted at the opposite ends of the main housing to respectively seal the first and second chambers from atmosphere, first solenoid controlled valve means in the housing operable to selectively block or accommodate flow from the first axial passage into the first chamber, and second pressure responsive valve means.
