Cr/sup +/ ions formed by electron impact from Cr(CO)/sub 6/ reacts with methane to produce CrCH/sub 2//sup +/ in abundance, and the cross section-energy relation is exothermic. Lesser amounts of CrCH/sub 3//sup +/ and CrH/sup +/ are also formed. Experiments confirm that an electronically excited state of Cr/sup +7/ is involved. (DLC)
