This paper describes a method of forming a cathode for a molten carbonate fuel cell. It comprising: mixing substantially equal quantities of first and second particulate materials having diameters of about 1 micron, and heating the mixture to cell operating temperatures in the presence of a carbonate electrolyte to sinter the mixture with the first material sintering to form a skeletal structure coated by particles of the second material to form a cathode having a stable porosity in the range of from about 60% to about 70% by volume at steady-state cell operating conditions.
