Low temperature liquefied gas tanker ship equipped with membranous vessels
Construction cost and time of liquefied gas (LP-gas) tankers can be reduced considerably by constructing the membrane tanks and hull separately with hold spaces provided in the hull for later tank positioning. The roof of the tank becomes the deck of the tanker. The tank assembly consists of a double-wall membrane vessel constructed of thin-plate low-temperature-resistant material, such as nickel steel, stainless steel or aluminum, with a support structure on the outside composed of a steel-plated outer box and a compression-resistant insulating system. The outer steel box is thick enough to support the entire shape of the tank assembly, but not enough to support the inner pressure applied by the low-temperature liquefied-gas load.
