Determination of water vapor content and correcting for its effect on volume and/or Btu determinations

A reliable means of measuring the water vapor content of natural gas is necessary to comply with gas-company quality standards specifying the maximum allowable quantities of moisture that their product may contain. On July 16, 1980, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued an order establishing final regulations for determining the Btu content of gas sold under the Natural Gas Policy Act of 1978. When tested, the water vapor content and pressure of the gas might differ from the conditions described in this standard and from the delivered gas. Therefore, the results obtained under test conditions must often be converted to figures that reflect the actual conditions of the gas on delivery to properly price the gas. The calculation for moisture and application of the conversion factors are discussed along with the quantitative measurement of water vapor.
