Evidence for different mass splits in fission decays of giant multipole resonances from /sup 235,238/U(e,e/sup '/f) reactions

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Lett.; (United States)
The mass splits in the fission decays of giant E1, E2/E0, and E3 multipole resonances have been studied in /sup 235,238/U(e,e'f) coincidence experiments. The fission width ratios GAMMA/sub S//GAMMA/sub A/ have been determined as functions of excitation energy for separated multipoles. The isoscalar giant E2 resonances show a larger symmetric contribution than the E1 and E3 resonances.
