Forestry research: A mandate for change
Book

OSTI ID:6549034
This is a report from the Committee on Forestry Research. Demands on our forests are increasing and long-lived woody perennials may be more vulnerable to climate change and human needs than other plants. The report documents a decline in scientist-years and dollars spent on forestry research in the USA since 1978. A radical change in forestry research is recommended to deal with both national and global pressures on forest ecosystems. A $100 million competitive grants program as well as increases in the budget for the US Forest Service and McIntire-Stennis funding are suggested.
