Calculation of the enthalpy of formation of francium compounds

The enthalpy of formation of more than 150 crystalline compounds of francium of the type FrBH/sub 4/, Fr/sub 2/PtCl/sub 6/, etc. has been estimated by an empirical method based on the use of calculated values for the effective charges at the atoms in molecules and ions. The possibilities of the approach are demonstrated for 27 compounds of the type cited containing K, Cs, etc., for which a comparison is made between the calculated values for the enthalpy of formation and experimental values.
