Absorption and excretion of mercury in man. I. Relationship of mercury in blood and urine

Journal Article · · Arch. Environ. Health; (United States)
In order to determine if there was any correlation between mercury levels in blood and urine, 4 series of studies on humans who were exposed to mercury vapor and to dusts of several inorganic and organic compounds of mercury were performed. In all 4 sets of observations, the mercury levels found in blood and urine covered a wide range and were not distributed in the pattern of a normal curve. A fairly good degree of correlation between blood and urine, on a group basis, was found in 3 of the 4 sets of observations. Lack of correlation in one series may have been due to a variation in analytical method or to other causes. Correlation between blood and urine levels of mercury in any individual was rarely found.
