Backward K/sup -/p elastic scattering and 0/sup 0/. sigma. /sup -/. pi. /sup +/ production. [476 to 1077 MeV/c, preliminary results]

A high precision measurement of the momentum dependence of backward K/sup -/p elastic scattering from 476 to 1077 MeV/c incident momentum was performed at the Brookhaven National Laboratory Alternating Gradient Synchrotron. With the same apparatus the 0/sup 0/ production of pions in the reaction K/sup -/p..--> sigma../sup -/..pi../sup +/ was also measured.
