Teacher attitudes toward environmental education

Journal Article · · J. Environ. Educ.; (United States)

A survey of Columbus, Ohio, public school teachers was conducted to determine to what extent teachers use the environment as an instructive tool. Environmental education is evaluated by the number of school trips or by its inclusion in the curriculum. Analysis of questionnaires reveals that environmental education is important to most of these teachers, and that indoor sites are utilized more than outdoor sites. However, teachers consider consumer and vocational education to be of greater importance. To attract teacher attention, environmental education programs should relate as much as possible to these two topics. (2 references, 8 tables)
