CO/sub 2/ Acceptor Process Gasification Pilot Plant: operations. Final report, July 1973--July 1974

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6542545
The CO/sub 2/ Acceptor Process, a novel concept for converting lignite or subbituminous coals to substitute natural gas, was conceived and developed by Consolidation Coal Company's Research Department (now Conoco Coal Development Company). A simplified schematic of the process as it now exists is given. Presently, the process is undergoing pilot plant demonstration in a 40-ton per day unit located at Rapid City, South Dakota. Details of the plant construction and report covering the plant operations durint the period of January, 1972--June 1973, have been published previously. This current report documents the operating results for the period of July, 1973--July 1974. Runs 11 through 19 demonstrated the technical feasibility of the CO/sub 2/ Acceptor Process and provided process data and important operating experience. The major accomplishments for the year were: (1) the development of a reliable standard start-up procedure using dead-burned dolomite for the initial regenerator inventory; (2) the achievement of stable plant operation (balance periods) which allowed the gathering of data from which heat and material balances can be calculated; (3) the demonstration of fully integrated plant operation with lignite coal as the gasifier feedstock.
