Statutory authority for water pollution control is mandated primarily by the Federal Water Pollution Control Act; however, eight other federal laws also apply. These are: Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act of 1972; Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974; Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1974; Ports and Waterways Safety Act of 1972; Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act of 1972; Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976; Atomic Energy Act of 1954. These acts are reviewed with some discussion of their relation to one another.
