Definition Plan: alternate reentry and testing

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6541895
This Project Definition Plan modifies the reentry program described in Project Rio Blanco Definition Plan, Vol. 3, Reentry-Related Detailed Tasks, Jan. 1973 (PDP Vol. 3), and describes the drilling, production testing, formation sampling safety, security, and environmental programs, as well as the project management aspects of the alternate reentry project. However, the plan is subject to modification as dictated by circumstances encountered during the field activity. Drilling will be accomplished in 2 phases. The first phase will be the drilling and casing of a 2,200-ft vertical hole. The second phase will extend the hole to approx. 4,700 ft where it will be directionally drilled toward the detonation point of the middle chimney in RB-E-01. The hole will intersect the lower chimney region at about 45/sup 0/ from the vertical, and be used for drawdown testing and the gathering of data that should define chimney characteristics. These data will assist scientists and engineers in interpreting detonation-related phenomena with respect to low productivity observed during the drawdown testing of the upper chimney. The major technical objectives of this program are listed.
