750-MHz map of the Crab

Journal Article · · Sov. Astron. Lett. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6541431
Strip brightness profiles recorded at 750-MHz frequency during lunar occultations of the Crab Nebula in 1982-1983 are subjected to the Bracewell algorithm and standard cleaning to synthesize a 20 x 35 arcsec resolution radio map. At 4 percent peak intensity the extended elliptical structure measures 300 x 400 arcsec. The 750-MHz brightness peaks 10 arcsec SE of the pulsar; several other local bright spots are present. About 20 arcsec NW of the pulsar is a trough not more that 15 arcsec wide, oriented in PA 12 deg. The bright (approximately equal to or greater than 50 percent peak) region is limited to about 70 arcsec around the pulsar, except toward the NW, where it extends to 120 arcsec. 18 references.
