Epoxy-imidazole adducts as curing agents for epoxy resins
A method is described for the preparation of epoxy-imidazole adducts which are excellent curing agents and accelerators for the anhydride curing of polyepoxides to produce insoluble, infusible compositions. A process also is described for converting a polyepoxide having more than one epoxy group molecule to an insoluble infusible product. It consists of curing the polyepoxide at elevated temperature with an adduct of an epoxy compound (monoepoxides or polyepoxides) and an imidazole compound having a secondary amino group in the imidazole ring. Pulverulent mixtures of these solid epoxy-imidazole adducts and solid epoxy resins, optionally, in combination with other curing agents such as amines, anhydrides, etc., have excellent storage stability and rapid cure.
