Cross section and analyzing power measurements for the (p,d) reaction on /sup 16/O and /sup 40/Ca at 200 MeV

Cross sections and analyzing powers for the reactions /sup 16/O(p-arrow-right,d)/sup 15/O and /sup 40/Ca(p-arrow-right,d)/sup 39/Ca at T/sub p/ = 200 MeV have been measured for the 1/2/sup -/ (0 MeV) and (3/2/sup -/ (6.18 MeV) levels in /sup 15/O and for the (3/2/sup +/ (0 MeV) and 1/2/sup +/ (2.47 MeV) levels in /sup 39/Ca. The angular ranges covered are 3/sup 0/less than or equal totheta/sub c.m./less than or equal to47/sup 0/ and 4/sup 0/less than or equal totheta/sub c.m./less than or equal to21/sup 0/, respectively, for the two reactions. Exact finite range distorted-wave Born approximation calculations are in poor agreement with the measured angular distributions of cross sections and analyzing powers. The angular distributions of the cross sections are featureless and decrease exponentially with increasing scattering angle.
