Photodetachment and radiative attachment involving the 2p/sup 2/ /sup 3/P/sup e/ state of H/sup -/

Cross sections for the photodetachment processes H/sup -/(2p/sup 2/ /sup 3/P/sup e/)+hw..-->..H(2s or 2p)+e/sup -/ are calculated and used in the evaluation of the rate coefficients for the inverse radiative attachment processes. The rate coefficients are compared with those for radiative attachment into the 1s/sup 2/ /sup 1/S ground state of H/sup -/, and it is found that the latter processes are more probable for all electron temperatures. However, radiative attachment into (and decay of) the H/sup -/(2p/sup 2/ /sup 3/P/sup e/) state may be an important source of infrared emission.
