This patent describes a hydraulic lift apparatus for use in combination with a drill string and a coring bit used for coring. The drill string is characterized by including an outer tube connected to a coring bit and having pressurized hydraulic fluid forced through the outer tube, the drill string further characterized by an inner tube for receiving and lifting a core cut by the core bit. The drilling fluid generally flows between the outer and inner tube to the core bit. The hydraulic lift apparatus comprises: an inner mandrel longitudinally fixed and coupled to the outer tube and concentrically disposed within the outer tube. The inner mandrel defines an axial bore in communication with the interior of the drill string and has the drilling fluid supplied therethrough.
