The Canadian Beaufort: A corrosive extreme

BeauDril's first 2 y of operation with a new state-of-the-art Ice Class 4 drilling system have proven that the Canadian Beaufort Sea represents one of the most hostile marine environments in the world. A wide range of case histories drawn from three of the four icebreakers, both of the drill rigs, and a dredge barge are discussed. Some insight on design and operational criteria to mitigate the problems is also discussed.
