Oxidation characteristics of some engine oil formulations containing petroleum and synthetic basestocks

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6533345
Several papers have described viscosity and/or volatility characteristics of engine oils modified with synthetic basestocks. This paper summarizes tests evaluating the oxidation characteristics of engine oils formulated with synthetic, partial synthetic, and petroleum basestocks. Others have described and assessed the importance of the oxidation stability characteristics of engine oils. Their work described petroleum products, but did not include synthetic products. Others have described relationships between lubricating-oil basestock composition and the effects of additives on oxidation stability of engine oils. Synthetic basestocks were not included in that study.
