Synthetic and catalytic studies directed toward homogeneously catalyzed selective oxidation. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6532950

This final report briefly summarizes achievements made on catalyzed oxidation of carbon monoxide and ketones by transition metal carbonyl complexes. Only Rh(CO)/sub 16/ catalyzed the oxidation of CO under ambient conditions. A necessary condition for oxidation to occur is the facile substitution of PPh/sub 3/ into the coordination sphere of the metal catalytic oxidation of aliphatic ketones by rhodium and rhenium carbonyl complexes lead to the formation of carboxylic acids. Mechanistically the reaction proceeds via hydroperoxide and peracid intermediates. The catalysts accelerate the decomposition of hydroperoxide and peracid to carboxylic acids.
