Comparison of inelastic electron-scattering with ( g/sub 9/2/ x ( f/sub 7/2//sup -3/)/sub J/)/sub 8/- shell-model calculations for the T = 1 and T = 2 8/sup -/ states in /sup 54/Fe

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Lett.; (United States)
Inelastic electron scattering is used to identify M8 transitions and assign J/sup r/ = 8/sup -/ to states at E/sub x/ = 8.314, 8.949, 9.974, 10.677, and 13.263 MeV excitations. Shell-model calculations within the model space (g/sub 9/2/ x ( f/sub 7/2//sup -3/))/sub 8/- suggest that the four lowest states are T = 1 and the strongest excitation, to the state at 13.263 MeV, is T = 2.
