Interaction of high frequency magnetic field with drift-cyclotron loss-cone instability

The effect of a small amplitude, high frequency magnetic field on drift-cyclotron loss-cone instability is investigated. With B/sub 1//B/sub 0/ = 5% and ..omega../sub ce//..omega../sub 0/ = 80, the critical characteristic length of plasma density gradient reduces dramatically compared with the results of Post and Rosenbluth and is comparable to the finite ..beta.. stabilization effect.
