Deregulation of the electric utility industry is changing the way companies buy and use energy. In yesterday`s world, the costs of electricity were based on how much was used, when it was used, and what the local utility decided to charge. Tomorrow, success will be obtainable if there is a system in place for tracking and managing a facilities` energy consumption to get the best deal from a competitive utility business. The goal is to be able to interpret and organize energy use in order to keep on top of billing errors, negotiate contracts that serve the company, and focus energy conservation efforts. Even before deregulation, money will be saved.
