A hydrotreating process is described comprising the step of simultaneously contacting a substantially liquid hydrocarbon-containing feed stream, which contains at least about 5 ppmw nickel and at least about 10 ppmw vanadium, with a free hydrogen containing gas and a catalyst composition consisting essentially of alumina and cerium oxide, under such contacting conditions as to obtain a product stream having reduced levels of nickel and vanadium.
