Engine throttle control with low idle speed actuation force

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6529526
A throttle valve assembly for the charge air inlet passage of an internal combustion engine comprising: housing means defining a portion of the inlet passage; valve means carried by the housing means within the passage portion for rotation about an axis transverse to the direction of flow in the passage to effect modulation of the flow, the valve means comprising a generally tubular hub portion concentric to the axis, a generally circular disc throttle member extending through the hub portion for rotation therewith, and an idle flow passageway extending radially through the hub portion for directly communicating an upstream portion of the passage with a downstream portion of the passage; and a generally tubular idle speed control member mounted for concentric rotation about the axis within the hub portion to effect modulation of fluid flow through idle flow passageway.
