Catalysts for the conversion of syn gas

A catalyst system is described suitable for use in the conversion of synthesis gas to hydrocarbons. The catalyst system comprises: a copper-containing alcohol synthesis catalyst; an iron-containing modifier for the alcohol synthesis catalyst in an amount to promote the formation of hydrocarbons; and a metallosilicate wax cracking catalyst in an effective amount to reduce the wax content of the hydrocarbon product. The catalyst systems as cited above is described wherein the amount of iron-containing modifier in relation to the copper-containing alcohol synthesis catalyst is such as to provide an atomic ratio of iron to copper of at least 0.003 to 1. The catalyst systems as cited above is described wherein the metallosilicate is a gallosilicate. The catalyst system as cited above is described wherein the metallosilicate wax cracking catalyst is a zeolite.
