Tests for thermal efficiency of dwellings. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6527120

Several techniques exist by which the thermal efficiency (resistance to heat loss) of houses can be determined cheaply enough to make it worthwhile to do so for every house sold. New houses are best tested by visual inspection before finish installation combined with computer heat loss calculations, and existing houses by fuel and utility audits of several alternative types. Other techniques, including inference of a transfer function from an imposed step-function change in interior temperature, and tracer gas infiltration assay, are under development and promise applicability in a few years.
