Proceedings: 1989 conference on technologies for producing electricity in the twenty-first century
International conferences have been held every four years. The planning and cooperation of the cosponsoring organizations: Kernforschungsanlage, Julich (West Germany) and New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (Japan) is acknowledged who provided speakers and participated in organization of the conference. The Council of Alternate Fuels was a cooperating organization. The conference took place because of the high level of cooperation by the cochairmen Dr. N. J. Neef (KFA) and Mr. S. Tagawa (NEDO) who organized the speakers from abroad. Finally, the session chairmen who were colleagues from EPRI, utilities, NEDO, and organizations from the Federal Republic of Germany chaired the technical sessions during the conference. Conferences similar to this have been held since the 1970s and represent opportunities to assess progress over some two decades. It is gratifying that much of the research started in the 1970s has been translated to practice, and forms the base for new commercial plants based on advanced system concepts that dramatically change the ordinary ways of generating electric power. Such changes require extraordinary dedication of scientific and engineering personnel that are drawn from a worldwide community.
