Evolution of globular clusters and the origin of galactic halo stars

Journal Article · · Sov. Astron. AJ (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6526449
Various decay mechanisms for globular clusters are considered. The most efficient ones are dissipation and dynamical friction. The field-star population of the galactic halo cannot all be attributed to the disruption of preexisting globular clusters that consist entirely of stars.
