Recovery of petroleum by displacement with miscible fluids

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6524468
In a secondary type process of petroleum recovery, a slug of soluble oil is injected into the formation, followed by a slug of emulsion. Water is then injected in sufficient volume and pressure to drive the soluble oil and emulsion through the formation, and petroleum is recovered through at least one production well. The soluble oils are substantially clear liquids while the emulsions are turbid to opaque. The soluble oils and emulsions are similar in that both can have high oil concentrations, but only the soluble oil will invert readily to form a water-external emulsion. (9 claims)
