Effects of nuclear parity violation in deuterium atoms and elastic electron-deuteron scattering

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)
We confirm a suggestion made by Desplanques that the nuclear induced parity violation caused by the magnetization current is numerically more important than that due to the convection current. The resulting deuteron parity-violating electromagnetic form factor G/sub V/(q/sup 2/) remains sensitive mainly to the /sup 3/P/sub 1/ abnormal-parity admixture in the deuteron wave function and is determined primarily by the parity-violating pion-nucleon coupling. We also argue that the nucleon-only impulse approximation constrained by gauge invariance is a good first approximation.
