The fully quantum mechanical statistical multistep direct theory of Feshbach, Kerman, and Koonin is used to calculate the analyzing powers of the /sup 58/Ni(p,p') reaction at 65 MeV to the continuum. The overall behavior of the analyzing powers and differential cross sections as a function of energy and angle is reasonably described by the theory and the relative contributions of the single and multistep processes are evaluated.
