The initial construction phase of Argentina's $1.2 billion, 1189 mile Centro-Oeste natural gas transmission system was completed and the first gas delivered in late November 1981. The main transmission line is 698 miles of 30-in diameter pipe that extends from the Loma de la Lata gas fields in Neuquen Province to Gas del Estado's Campo Duran-Buenos Aires line at San Jeronimo in Santa Fe Province; 6 laterals are in service and 24 branch connections supply gas to towns along the route. The initial gas delivery of the 670 million CF/day system was 190 million SCF/day with two compressor stations now installed. The Loma de la Lata gas fields have an estimated 16.8 trillion CF of natural gas reserves, enough to supply Argentina's domestic demand for 75 years at current levels; Argentina's total natural gas reserves currently are estimated to be 24 TCF.
