Alpha Survey Meter (Engineering Materials)
The survey meter is a hand-held, self-contained count-rate-meter used in conjunction with the air proportional probe type LEA76-2009 to survey for alpha particle contamination ranging from a few counts per minute to 10/sup 6/ counts per minute. The unit is constructed in a light weight aluminum case protected with blue epoxy paint. Electronic circuits feature CMOS integrated circuits for high reliability and low power drain. The power is provided by eight size C batteries. The meter is a three and one-half inch meter (2.9 inch scale) calibrated 0-100 counts/min with battery check mark. The detector is an air proportional probe type LEA76-2009 with active area of 120 cm/sup 2/. The calibration is by LLL Standards to read 100% of 2..pi.. geometry of /sup 239/Pu. The calibration is sensitive to changes in air pressure. (WHK)
